Health & Disability Rehabilitation
Health Care Livelihood & Family management
Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated countries in the world and faces the serious problem of over-population in the future. Our health care system is insufficient. In response to Bangladesh's population density and our inadequate health care system, BRIF provides information to communities on primary health care and family planning.
Disability Rehabilitation Program
There are millions of Bangladeshi people living with a disability. They receive little or no assistance because their families and communities don't know how to help them. This program provides disability education, physiotherapy, therapy training, surgical operations and support to disabled people and their families. Through this program we have improved the quality of life of many disabled children and adults living with Cerebral Palsy, blindness, speech and hearing difficulties, Down syndrome, club feet, cleft lip and other physical and intellectual disabilities.
Free Eye Treatment
There are many people in Bangladesh living with eye disease. Every year BRIF organizes a number of Free Eye Camps. We set up a hospital at a community centre. Local and international volunteers give pre-operative care to patients, they prepare all food, assist with surgery and post-surgical care of the patients. Local doctors volunteer their time and services to perform the surgery. These Free Eye Clinics provide surgery to rural people who would otherwise be unable to afford treatment.
Environmental Health and Clean Water Support Project
Lack of clean drinking water and poor sanitation cause a variety of diseases in rural villages. This project provides tube-wells/hand pumps for safe drinking water and sanitary latrines for hygienic waste management. This has considerably reduced the incidence of water borne disease and increased morale within the community.
